University of Connecticut fans were waiting patiently in Gampel Pavilion for performances from artists , Young M.A, Dominic Fike and two student performers by the name of Montez and Kaprisun.
The doors opened at 6:00 p.m. for students to enter and grab their place on the floor. Many stood at the front to be front and center to the performers. Those sitting at the lower section of the stadium as well as high above came around 7:30 p.m. before the show started.
The first performer goes by Montez but is actually named Trinity Hollis. A sophomore student that is a Music major who enjoys writing her own songs and has her own crocheting business that she works on during her free time.
She was the first student performer to open for Young M.A and Dominic Fike. Montez did songs from her latest EP that is called Phases. A popular song many students knew due to seeing her in a youtube video a University of Connecticut student posted was called , “Special”.
DJ Biggman , who happens to be Hollis’ father, had her set handled and was hyping the crowd up very well during her performance as well as the performer. She created a catchphrase , “ Montez chillin’ with UCONNIC” on spot to calm her nerves.
The crowd loved her and by the end of her fifth song she had a quick word to say to the audience and stated this was her first stage performance and she was thanking the crowd for helping her.
After Montez went , Kaprisun took the stage and dominated it with his own songs. He performed at Huskies in the beginning of the semester and had a great performance. Kaprisun entertained the audience and even took it upon himself to stage dive into the crowd and surf the crowd for a short while.
Young M.A entered the stage with a few friends and had the crowd cheering excitedly. She called students up to dance to her songs and encouraged flashlights to light up the entire Gampel Pavilion. There were thousands of lights on center stage in sync with the songs playing. A fan favorite named “OOOUUU” started playing, having everyone jumping up and down excited to hear the rap famous lyrics.
After Young M.A performed, a special performer from a famous television show, Euphoria, Dominic Fike, performed songs named Double Negative, Chicken tenders and more having the crowd scream his name. He signed his hat and sweater and threw it into the crowd while playing his electric guitar effortlessly.
UConnic was a great concert and after two years of being postponed due to Covid, students needed to be uplifted and definitely were.
